Curling

Throwing is a lot harder than it looks. By the end of the day I was mostly able to do it without falling down, but I still ended up with some good bruises on my knees the next morning.

Sweeping without hitting the rock is easier than I would have thought. Sweeping and having it do anything is a lot harder. You really have to push.

Aiming is very hard. One of those was mine, but that was the only decent shot I made. (As you can see, Elan wasn't happy.)

It was fun! It has a nice, sedate pace, with lots of strategizing, and it's actually a pretty good (cardio) workout. Brad is talking about putting together a CS team for next year. I might be able to be talked into that.

You are one of two people that I've known that have actually curled. ^_^ I've been tempted a couple of times, but I would probably end up one massive bruise before I was done.

Curling is all about the whiskey. Unfortunately, it's becoming rare in NZ, due to a run of warm winters for the last decade or two.

TOTALLY. I had my very first drink in a curling rink's bar in Red Deer, Alberta. I had a girly cider, though, not whiskey.

Curling is best on a frozen lake, in a hoar-frost covered forest or moor, with the whiskey in silver hipflasks. Doing it in a covered artificial rink just seems odd.

We made good use of the attached bar afterwards, yes.
